BALD, SLAPHEADED AND STRICKEN!

Bald]--(
The Darkness))
So since you people don't really understand what I say sometimes, I've decided to do a small glossary of music related words you might wanna know.
Action; (You're action is so high, damn, I play also finger pain.)
Frankly this is a stupid word people who like to show off tend to use. Action is the measurement of how high the strings are from the fretboard. The lower it is, the easier it is to play, this is usually the case when you use strings of a light/custom gauge. The opposite would mean the player has to press harder and getting the accurate note of choice would be harder to do so.
Alternative Picking; (Use alternative Picking lah Chee Bai, play all down stoke wanna die is it, sure hand pain)
This is an act of picking the strings in a down and up movement, instead of picking downwards all the time. This style of picking is easier since you can pick two notes instead of one (duh), and is recommended if you are trying to play fast songs.
efx;(Did ya see his efx! Like sushi belt like DAT.)
When I say this, I usually mean the
effects board that the person is using. Some people mod theirs so much, they have multiple pedals sticking out of nowhere and it really looks like the sushi belt, complete with different colored plates. Otherwise, people usually mean effects that the guitarist or bassist or keyboardist or vocalist use.
Plectrum; (Pass me a plectrum)
This is the correct term for a "guitar pick".
F-Hole; (I wish mine had fake F-Holes)
Erm, F shaped Holes on an instrument, mostly classical intruments have f holes, but nowadays you can get fake f holes on electrical instruments as well. F holes is not an abbreviation of Fake Holes.
Whammy Bar; (WTF did my Whammy Bar go!)
A.K.A. Tremolo bar, is usually made of metal/plastic and is used mainly to sustain the notes one is playing while using a vibrato technique. Whammy Bar skills are hard, and can also be used to aid the guitarist in imitating many sounds with the guitar.
Inlays; (What the heck. How come all the inlays like so shitty man..)
These are position markers on your fretboard, most commonly seen in the shapes of DOTS, which I don't really like. Also made of different materials.
Mother of Pearl; (My ultimate dream, one with mother of pearl)
One of the most expensive inlay materials.
Riff; (Gawd, is that one heavy riff or what.)
A short
rhythmic phrase, especially one that is repeated in improvisation.
Lick; (Yeah, we guitarists lick better.)
A phrase improvised by a soloist, especially on the guitar.
Groove form; (Total groove song. Lame.)
A song which is based only on hooks. The harmony is static, with one or two chords alternating, or possibly a pattern of four chords as a repeating cycle. The structure is made entirely from moving from one set of hooks to another.
Back Beat; (DID YOU HEAR THAT! He did an awesome back beat, damn!)
A consistent rhythm that stresses beats 2 and 4 in common time. In other "common" time signatures, the backbeat will land elsewhere. For example, the backbeat lands on 4 and 10 in 12/8 time.
Hook; (ARGH! This hook is driving me INSANE!! ENOUGH ENOUGH!)
Repeated melodic, lyrical and rhythmic devices that are usually the most memorable part of most pop songs. These include:
melodic hook: hook based on the instruments and the singers
rhythmic hook: hook based on the patterns in the drums and bass parts
verbal hook: hook based on the rhyming and/or repeated words of the chorus
Gauge; (NON! I want Heavy Gauge strings, you know, 11, 52)
Term used to describe the thickness of a guitar's strings. Heavy gauge strings are the thickest, and light gauge strings are the thinnest.
Beat Displacement; (I so totally want a beat displacement here, and you're gonna HAVE to play it. PLAY IT!)
A term popularized in drumming over the last 10 years. It refers to permutation where all beats will move forward say, one eighth note. This method will create numerous variations of rhythmic possibilities on the drums.

By the way, don't try to be an ass and say things you don't understand, sometimes it's better to be a straightforward idiot, instead of a smartass wannabe.
